FreeAgent stopped doing Shopify. We didn't.
Bridging Ledger pushes Shopify orders, fees and Shopify Payments payouts into FreeAgent as bank transaction explanations. UK Shopify sellers, on FreeAgent.
A 30-minute conversation with the founder. No demo theatre, no sales script.
FreeAgent had a Shopify integration. Then they didn't.
On 30 April 2025, FreeAgent shut their Shopify integration down. Their support docs now tell affected users to enter Shopify transactions by hand. The Shopify App Store listing is gone.
FreeAgent didn't pull out of ecommerce. They shipped an Amazon UK integration in November 2023 and it's still running at £6/month. The Shopify cohort got the manual entry suggestion.
No third-party tool has filled the gap either. Link My Books supports Xero and QuickBooks. A2X supports Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage. Zapier and friends can move data between Shopify and FreeAgent, but they create invoices — not the bank transaction explanations FreeAgent wants to see.
If your books are in FreeAgent and your sales are on Shopify, you're either doing it manually or you're not doing it.
We push your Shopify into FreeAgent. Once a day, by hand if needed.
Bridging Ledger connects to your Shopify store and your FreeAgent company over OAuth. Then it does this:
- Pulls in every order from Shopify, including fees, refunds, and gateway details.
- Pulls in every Shopify Payments payout.
- Pushes each payout into FreeAgent as a transfer explanation against your Shopify bank account.
- Pushes each order as a bank transaction explanation, with Shopify fees split out as a separate entry.
- Routes PayPal-gateway orders to a separately-named PayPal bank account if you have one set up in FreeAgent.

Built around the workaround you already use.
If you've been doing this manually, you probably worked out the trick. You stopped treating Shopify as a sales source and started treating it like a virtual bank account: your money lands in Shopify, sits there, then transfers out as a payout. You explain the transfer in FreeAgent, you explain the fees separately, and your books balance.
We built Bridging Ledger around that exact approach, because it's the one that works. The UK accountants on forums kept arriving at the same answer. So did the FreeAgent users who'd been at this for years before April 2025.
What you've been doing is right. We just do it for you.
Every push remembers itself. Un-push any time.
We don't ask you to trust us — we ask you to test us. Push a payout into FreeAgent, open FreeAgent, check it, hate it, un-push in one click. The entries we created come straight back out, fees and all.
You can leave us tomorrow and the entries we created leave with us. Your FreeAgent is exactly where it was before you tried us.

What we don't do.
The honest list. Read it before booking the call so neither of us wastes time.
- No Xero, QuickBooks Online, or Sage. Link My Books and A2X do those well.
- No Amazon UK. FreeAgent ships their own Amazon integration at £6/month. Use that.
- No Etsy, eBay, TikTok Shop, or other marketplaces. Not yet. Not promising it.
- Built for the simplest UK Shopify situation. If your sales include anything outside the standard UK case — overseas customers, multi-rate inventory, special schemes — we should talk first.
- We don't replace FreeAgent. We push into FreeAgent. Your books stay where they are.
- We don't have customers yet. A real new product looking for its first cohort.
Who's behind this.
Built by Andy Croll. I run a UK Shopify store and use FreeAgent for the books. This product exists because I needed it. If something breaks, I'm the one who fixes it.
There's no support queue. Email me directly at andy@bridgingledger.com, or pick a time on my calendar.
- Data lives in the UK.
- We only ask for the OAuth scopes we actually need — security details.
- Read our privacy policy, terms, and sub-processors.
Talk for half an hour.
Pick a slot on the calendar. I'll ask what you sell, how often Shopify pays out, and how you've been handling it. If Bridging Ledger fits, I'll do the first import with you. If it doesn't, I'll tell you what I'd use instead.
