- On FreeAgent? They don't support FreeAgent — homepage, pricing page and Shopify App Store listing all confirm Xero and QuickBooks only. Bridging Ledger is your option.
- On neither yet, but choosing? Read on. There's a real decision underneath.
Where Link My Books wins.
The honest list. We've read their site, their pricing, their App Store listing, and what their customers say.
- Established. Hundreds of paying customers, years of operating history, a UK accountant partner network.
- Multi-platform support. Shopify, Amazon, eBay, Etsy, TikTok Shop, Walmart, Square, plus several smaller marketplaces. If you sell across more than one channel and you're on Xero or QuickBooks, that breadth is hard to beat.
- Self-serve trial. 14-day free trial, no card required. You can try them without booking a call.
- Polished onboarding. Their setup flow is mature in a way ours, today, is not.
- Tax handling. Sophisticated for Xero / QuickBooks, including multi-currency and jurisdictions Bridging Ledger doesn't touch.
If your books are on Xero or QuickBooks, Link My Books is genuinely a good answer. None of the above is sarcasm.
Where Bridging Ledger fits.
The narrow list:
- We support FreeAgent. They don't. If your books are on FreeAgent, the comparison ends here.
- We share the workaround your community already invented. UK accountants and FreeAgent users on forums independently arrived at the "treat Shopify as a virtual bank account, reconcile by transfer" pattern. Bridging Ledger writes that pattern into FreeAgent. It's the design FreeAgent's data model rewards.
- PayPal-gateway routing, automatically. If you have a separately-named PayPal bank account in FreeAgent, we detect it and route PayPal-gateway orders there. Useful if you take PayPal alongside Shopify Payments.
- You can un-push. Every entry we create in FreeAgent remembers its URL. You can undo any push, one click. (Link My Books deletes entries too — this isn't unique to us. It's the norm in the category.)
What if I moved to Xero and bought Link My Books?
Honest answer: that's a real option, and we know it because UK Amazon sellers actively recommend it to each other on forums.
It works if:
- You don't have years of FreeAgent data you'd lose context on.
- Your accountant is comfortable in Xero (or you don't have one).
- You'd prefer the multi-channel coverage Link My Books offers.
- You're willing to pay for Xero on top of the bridge.
It doesn't work if:
- Your FreeAgent comes free with your business bank account (NatWest, Mettle), and switching means paying for accounting software you currently don't.
- Your accountant prefers FreeAgent and would charge you for the migration.
- You like FreeAgent. (Most people on FreeAgent like FreeAgent. That's why they put up with the integration gap.)
If switching books makes sense for you, do it. Link My Books is good. We're not going to pretend otherwise.
